A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE (2013)
In Collaboration with 'Changing Places, Different Faces (Cultural Exchange Project)
Changing Places, Different Faces was a project about the issues of immigration seeing direct engagement with unemployed young people in rural areas. The project focused on people's skills, employ-ability and creative arts. The project was supported by GoMenta and funded by Youth In Action.
The project has been created by ACE, in Bury St Edmund's, a small market town in West Suffolk. ACE collaborated with another group of young people from a small village of Sabina Monteleone in the region of Rieti, Italy. The two rural areas are both just over an hour away from their capital cities, both have limited work opportunities in creative areas, most young people have to leave and live in London or Rome, their nearest big city.
OZU, a cultural Centre near Sabina Monteleone, provided the platform for both groups to meet and work creatively together.
Drama workshops run by the UK participants were based around the play ‘A View from the Bridge’ by Author Miller.
Through these workshops Michael, along with the actors and creative team were able to learn and develop their understanding of Italian Culture and use this during character development and improvisations.
